1999 CONFERENCE CALENDAR

 

MLC researchers will participate in the following conferences in 1999. Look for us here:

 

American Educational Research Association (AERA), Montreal, April 19-23;

Doris Ash and Joseph Polman will be discussants at a structured poster session entitled "Multiple Perspectives of Informal Learning Environments. There will be six poster presentations examining different aspects of informal learning environments, with special focus on those found in museums. Lauren Resnick, director of LRDC, will be the invited speaker at the Informal Learning Environments Research (ILER) SIG. She will reflect on "Learning in School and Out": A Decade Later. Ash is chairman of this SIG, and Ellenbogen is newsletter editor. Ash will be a discussant at a structured poster session sponsored by this group, and will be a panelist for a separate session on funding. Ellenbogen will give a talk about discourse analysis.

 

American Association of Museums (AAM), Cleveland, April 25-29:

In a session on communicating with visiting families, Crowley will examine approaches for studying multigenerational family groups.

 

Association of Youth Museums (AYM), New York, May 21-23:

Schauble will participate in a forum entitled, "From Theory to Practice: Facilitating Family Learning in Informal Settings," chaired by Karol Bartlett of the Children's Museum of Indianapolis

 

Visitor Studies Association (VSA), Chicago, August 3-7:

Leinhardt and Crowley have submitted a proposal to discuss the uses of the MLC web site. Ash and Ellenbogen will discuss museum research.

 

AAM Learning in Museums seminar, Bozeman, MT, September 25-27:

Leinhardt will discuss the evolving philosophy of the MLC, present the model for our comprehensive study, explain the construct of conversational elaboration , and explore the dimension of identity.

 

Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC), Tampa, FL, October 2-5:

Crowley, Martin, and Ash will present museum research.
